You are looking at an identified WEDDING photograph of GEORGE CLAUSS & wife JOHANNA. The photo measures abt. 4x6 and is faded with corner wear and some dirty spots. I have scanned in a copy of the photo after it was fixed by paint shop pro just to show you that you can make a copy that is very nice for displaying and I have scanned in the original faded photo. The back of the photograph is identified as such MR & MRS. GEO. CLAUSS WEDDING PHOTO, FROM AUNT MARY KERSTEN (HIS SISTER) TO MR. & MRS. SAM CLAUSS (GEORGE & JOHANNA'S SON), TAKEN MAY 9, 1894.
I have done some research on this photo and the information I have found is limited, mostly taken from census records.
GEORGE CLAUSS was born Dec. 1869, MI. to GEORGE CLAUSS born Sept. 1837, Germany & DOROTHEA born Sept. 1840, Germany and JOHANNA was born October 1865, MI.
GEORGE had one sibling (that I could find) MARY D. born Dec. 1877, MI., based on the information on the back of the photo, she married EDWARD KERSTEN.
GEORGE & JOHANNA had 2 children: DOROTHEA R. born November 1896, MI. & SAMUEL "SAMME" or "SAM" J. born 1904 MI.
1900 Mendon, St. Joseph, MI. Census = George Clauss, Johanna, Dorotha.
living next door are George's parents (George & Dorothea and his sister Mary D.).
1910 Menden, St. Joseph, MI. Census = George (40), Johanna (34), Dorthea R. (13) & Samme (6).
**1920 Menden, St. Joseph, MI. Census = George, Johanna & Samuel J.
1930 Menden, St. Joseph, MI Census = George & Johanna.
**Here' were it gets a little weird, in 1920 Mendon, St. Joseph, MI. Census records, SAMUEL J. is living with his parents GEORGE & JOHANNA CLAUSS and this census record was enumerated Jan. 2 - 6 1920, HOWEVER, also in 1920 (while looking for SAMUEL'S married sister DOROTHEA I found a DOROTHEA GOODACRE, born abt. 1897 MI., married to WALTER GOODACRE and they have DOROTHEA'S brother SAMUEL living with them in KALAMAZOO, MICHIGAN, and this census was enumerated on Jan. 1-8, 1920. I really do believe that this is the same SAMUEL, possibly within that short period of time he went to live with his sister and got recorded in two census records.
That is not the only reason I believe that DOROTHEA CLAUSS married WALTER GOODACRE, the other reason is that in 1920 MENDON, ST. JOSEPH, MI. census records, WILLIAM (Walter's dad), MARY (Walter's mom) and ELSIE (Walter's sister) were living right next door to DORTHEA'S parents GEORGE & JOHANNA CLAUSS and this is the same year that I have SAMUEL J. CLAUSS (DORTHEA'S brother) living with DORTHEA and her husband WALTER GOODACRE. So possibly they came to visit WALTER'S parents (right next door to DORTHEA'S parents) and decided to take SAMUEL back to KALAMAZOO, MI.
I know that all of this sounds confusing but if you are related, some of this may sound familar and it may be helpful to determine if GEORGE & JOHANNA CLAUSS are your relatives.
WALTER & DORTHEA CLAUSS GOODACRE had a son ROBERT GOODACRE, born 1921, KALAMAZOO, MI. I found a ROBERT E. GOODACRE, born Oct. 19, 1921, in the S.S. Death Index and he died December 11, 1997, KALAMAZOO, MI.
MORE SOCIAL SECURITY DEATH INDEX INFO.
WALTER GOODACRE - Born April 7, 1893, Michigan and died November 25, 1974, Kalamazoo, MI.
I found the following cemetery information online at: http://kalamazoogenealogy.org/Cemeteries/Goo.htm
I also found this information about ROBERT EARL GOODACRE (1921-1997) son of DOROTHEA CLAUSS GOODACRE & WALTER GOODACRE.

For anyone research Samuel J. Clauss, Dorothea's brother, he may be listed in the 1930 Kalamazoo, MI., census records as Samuel Close (26), Lily (18) wife, Arthur G, (9 mo.), son. I took a look at the census record and I can see why they may have transcribed the surname as CLOSE.
