You are looking at an identified postcard that was sent to MRS. LOWELL MOWER of GREENE TWP., ANDROSCOGGIN CO. MAINE on December 8, 1910. The postcard was sent from MRS. ALICE M. HOYT, FARMINGTON, MAINE.

The postcard is in nice shape, it has some dirty spots but no tears (see scans).

At the time this postcard was sent (Dec. 1910), MARY C. SMALL MOWER was turning 79 years old and ALICE M. HOYT was only 59. Mentioned in the postcard was something called a "POSTCARD SHOWER". I tried to figure out what that was and basically it's exactly what it says, you try to get a lot of people to "shower" a person with postcards, this is the first time I'ver ever heard that term before.

I have done a little research on these families and this is what I've found:

MRS. LOWELL MOWER was actually MARY CLARK SMALL MOWER, born December 8, 1831, she was the wife of LOWELL MASON MOWER, born May 31, 1831, ME.

MARY C. MOWER died August 8, 1913 and her husband LOWELL M. MOWER died March 21, 1906, Androscoggin, ME.

In 1910 when she received this postcard, she was living with her son and daughter-in-law, WALTER LINDLEY & ETTA MAY ROUNDS MOWER, also in the household was ETTA'S daughter GRACE NUTE, age 19, WALTER'S step-daughter.

LOWELL MASON MOWER married MARY CLARK SMALL of LIMINGTON on JANUARY 1, 1865, GREENE TWP, ME.

MARY C. SMALL (Lowell's wife) gives her specific place of birth as LIMINGTON, ME. (1870 CENSUS), I looked to see if I could find her parents and there was only 1 MARY C. SMALL and she was born 1832, LIMINGTON, ME.. See 1860 census info. below:

JOSHUA SMALL, 60, MARY F, 53, MARY C., 28, JOSHUA W., 23, REBECCA A., 21, OLIVER F., 19 & FRANKLIN Y., 17. (there is a good possibility that this is her but more research is need).

The below listed burial and/or marriage records were taken from either FINDAGRAVE.COM or townofgreene.net. Most of the burial records had pictures of the headstones:

LOWELL MASON MOWER and his wife MARY C. SMALL MOWER are both buried in GREENWOOD CEMETERY, GREENE CORNER, ANDROSCOGGIN CO., MAINE.

LOWELL & MARY had 2 sons, WALTER LINDLEY MOWER born November 23, 1866, died November 27, 1954 and CHARLES M. MOWER born abt. 1869, ME.

WALTER L. MOWER (son of Lowell) married MRS. ETTA MAY NUTE of WISCASSET, on June 1, 1904, GREENE CO., ME.

WALTER L. MOWER is buried in the same cemetery as his parents, it's not clear where CHARLES is buried.

OTHERS BURIED IN GREENWOOD CEMETERY:

ETTA MAY ROUNDS MOWER (Walter's wife), born May 21, 1868, died Nov. 6, 1928.

EMILY FRANCIS MOWER (Lowell's sister), born June 1844, died AUG. 18, 1846.

OLIVER MOWER (Lowell's father), born Feb. 19, 1802, died March 23, 1892.

NOTES ON OLIVER MOWER: From some records I found online, OLIVER MOWER was the son of JOHN MOWER (1759-1854) CHARLTON, WORCESTER CO., MA. & ELISABETH EDWARDS.

OLIVER had siblings: JABEZ, PAMELIA, MARTIN, SEWELL, LEONARD, JEMIMA, CYNTHIA, CALVIN & JOSIAH.

HARRIETT HAMMOND ROBINSON MOWER (Oliver's wife & Lowell's mother), born July 25, 1811, died Dec. 27, 1878. Information at findagrave.com indicates that she was the daughter of ISAAC ROBINSON & JULIA HARWOOD of Calais, VT.

OLIVER MOWER married HARRIET H. ROBINSON of CALAIS, VT. on MAY 4, 1828

WILBUR FISH MOWER (Lowell's brother), born Dec. 23, 1841, died Nov. 28, 1892.

NOTE ON WILBUR FISH MOWER - I found a photograph of him attached to an ANCESTRY.COM CIVIL WAR RECORD. I have included it in the pictures above. WILBER MOWER, enlisted in Co. I., Maine 16th Infantry Reg., on Aug. 14, 1862, he was promoted to FULL SERGEANT on Feb. 1, 1863, promoted to FULL 2ND LIEUTENANT on Jan. 28, 1865, mustered out on MAY 15, 1865. He was 20 years old at the time of enlistment, records indicate that he survived the war ( I have included a copy of the record in the photos section).

**All of the Greene Twp., Maine records that I used for this information have WILBUR'S middle name as FISH, however, I have seen another record that lists his middle name as FISK and his CIVIL WAR records at ANCESTRY.COM simply list him as WILBUR MOWER.

SEWARD PORTER MOWER (Lowell's brother), born June 9, 1858, died Oct. 9 1877.
