You are looking at an identified postcard that was sent to MRS. WINEFRED COFFEE, Freeport, ME. This postcard was sent to MRS. COFFEE from her friend MRS. GOULD.
This postcard is in very nice shape with some corner wear and dirty spots (see scans).
The back of the card reads as such:
"Dear Friend, I hope you are well & happy. All are well here & send best wishes, lots of love, Mrs. Gould" Addressed to "Mrs. W.L. Coffee, Freeport, Me."
I've done some research on WINEFRED COFFEE and this is what I've come up with:
NOTE: WINEFRED'S name was spelled differently every single time I found her so I'm just going to list it as WINEFRED.
WINEFRED L. JOCELYN COFFEE was born Sept. 1848, ME., to NATHANIEL JOCELYN and BETHIAH (possibly last name BERRY).
WINEFRED L. JOCELYN married FREDERICK COFFEE in 1874, FREEPORT, ME. FREDERICK COFFEE was born May 1852, ME.
WINEFRED & FREDERICK had 2 daughters, ETHEL F. COFFEE, born APRIL 1875, ME. and BERTHA M. COFFEE born JULY 1882, ME.
ETHEL married GEORGE L. BRETT in 1893, ME. , they had two daughters, EDITH E., born 1894, and FLORENCE M., born 1910, ME., and one foster child, JOHN L., born 1898. JOHN joins this family between 1900 & 1910.
ETHEL'S sister BERTHA M., married THOMAS H. CARROLL, December 22, 1900, FREEPORT, ME. he was from AUBURN, ME.
WINEFRED & FREDERICK COFFEE divorced sometime between 1900 & 1910, they are together in 1900 but divorced by 1910 census, WINEFRED is living with her daughter ETHEL in the 1910 census.
1880 Freeport, Me. (Winefred is married)
Fred A. Coffee, 28, ME.
WINNIFREE L., wife, 31, ME.
Ethel, 5, ME.
1900 Freeport, Me., WINEFRED is still married to FREDERICK, ETHEL is married and BERTHA is still living home.
1910 Freeport, Me., WINEFRED & FREDERICK are divorced and WINEFRED is living with her daughter ETHEL and daughter BERTHA has been married since Dec. 1900.
WINEFRED is living with ETHEL up until the 1930 census so she at least lived until the age of 81.
More on the sender of this card:
I found 2 Mrs. Gould's in the FREEPORT, CUMBERLAND CO., MA. I really have no idea if either one of them were the MRS. GOULD that sent the postcard but it's possible. The 2 Mrs. Gould's that I found in 1910 census records were:
Maria M., Gould, 60, abt. 1850, ME., wife of ENOCH Y. GOULD, 57
Georgenna Gould, 60, 1850, ME., wife of Jacob J. Gould.
Both women were born about the same year WINEFRED was born and they both live relatively close to WINEFRED but again it's just a guess.
I have no additional information on any of these families.
