You are looking at an identified postcard that was sent to MASTER GRANVILLE VARIAN, HYDE PARK, NY. from his sister CLARA VARIAN, DANBURY, CT., APRIL 8, 1924.

The postcard is in nice shape with some corner wear and dirty spots but no tears (PLEASE SEE SCANS)

I did some research on these families and this is what I've come up with:

GRANVILLE VARIAN (she called him SONNY) was the son of HAROLD E. VARIAN AND EDNA GIBBONS.

GRANVILLE had 3 siblings: MILDRED, born abt. 1908, NY., FRANCES, born abt. 1900, NY., and CLARA, born abt. 1913, NY.

Sadly, GRANVILLE'S mother EDNA GIBBONS VARIAN died March 17, 1918. I was able to figure out CLARA'S relationship to GRANVILLE by some researcher information I found online. In 1924, CLARA is already living with her grandparents HURAM (prob. not spelled right) and ELLA VARIAN, DANBURY, CT.

After his wife's death, HAROLD & his children moved in with his parents in DUTCHESS, PLEASANT VALLEY, NY., they all show up in the 1920 census records.

HAROLD remarried sometime prior to 1930 and GRANDVILLE lived with his father & step mother (ETTA BROWER) while his siblings lived with their grandparents.

In 1930 Census records I find the following:

1930 New Fairfield, Fairfield, CT.
Huram B. Varian, 82
Ella D. Varian, 79
CLARA VARIAN, 18 (postcard sender)

1930 East Fishkill, Dutchess, NY
Harold E. Varian, 46
Etta B. Varian (second marriage)
GRANVILLE G. VARIAN

1930 Danbury, Fairfield, Ct.
Granville Gibbons, 74
Clara Gibbons, 72
MILDRED VARIAN, 22, (Granville's sister)
FRANK VARIAN, 20, (Granville's brother)
Joseph Kallay, 2
Louise Kallay, 3 yrs. 11 mo.
Grace Olson, 3 yrs. 11 mo.
*I have no idea who the last 3 chidren are, they are listed as BOARDERS.

I'm guessing that GRANVILLE'S father and step mother stayed in NY. because I find that ETTA VARIAN died January 1968, POUGHKEEPSIE, DUTCHESS, NY., she was born 4/29/1887. I was not able to find HAROLD in the S.S. Index, however, an online researcher says that he died July 17, 1960, NY.

ADDITIONAL NOTES:

WW1 DRAFT REG. - HAROLD EUGENE VARIAN, born July 3 1882, registered, DUTCHESS, NY.

1900 NEW YORK CITY census
H.B. VARIAN, 51, Jan. 1849, NY., married 1871

CLAUDE, 20, Jan. 1880, NY.
HARROLD, 17, July 1882, (GRANVILLE'S father)

GRANVILLE later married AZELIE T. FOURNIER who was born Sept. 6, 1912 and died October 21, 1990, CT., age 78.

GRANVILLE'S obituary says that he was born July 10, 1915, NY. and died June 16, 2009, CT. and it also states that he was the son of HAROLD & EDNA GIBBONS VARIAN. He is buried in WOOSTER CEMETERY, DANBURY.

GRANVILLE & AZELIE had a daughter RENEE

GRANVILLE graduated from POUGHKEEPSIE H.S. in 1931 (I can't be positive this is him but the location and dates make sense).
